Published: Wednesday, November 09, 2011

Eóin Murray, the "Where are the Women" Project Co-ordinator, spoke on the subject of gender qoutas with Joanna Tuffy on the Right Hook, Wednesday 9th November.

The project, co-ordinated by Eóin, is aimed at getting more women into politics and advancing a feminist political agenda.

Previous to this Eóin worked for Trócaire, in a variety of roles. Most recently he managed Trócaire's Campaigns, Development Education, Policy and Church teams (the Mobilising for Justice programme).

In 2004/5 he worked for the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights in Gaza (www.pchrgaza.org) where he campaigned for electoral quotas, the protection of civilians [in particular women and children] and against early marriage and other forms of GBV. He then moved to Trócaire (www.trocaire.org ), working as their Palestine Programme officer. He spent considerable time in the region coordinating the organisation's response to the war on Lebanon, the siege on Gaza and Israel's daily violations of international law.

He started his career in human rights as a volunteer with Front Line Defenders (www.frontlinedefenders.org). He has also worked for the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (www.ipsc.ie ) and in the civil staff of London's Metropolitan Police Service. Eóin holds a MA in War Studies from Kings College, London and a BA in English and History from UCD.
