Women Rising Events in Dublin and Cork

Published: Monday, April 14, 2014

Voters got the opportunity to meet with and discuss issues relating to gender with local and European election candidates in Dublin and Cork at our "Women Rising" cafe style events.

For far too long Ireland has been known for the lack of gender equality in its political decision making  with women account for just 25 % of all elected representatives in Ireland.

This can start to change in the Local and European Elections on May 23rd 2014.  NWCI believe this election is an important opportunity to support women's participation in politics both as candidates and as voters. Key issues that were discussed include violence against women, health and reproductive rights, economic independence and women in decision making.

The final "Women Rising" event will take place in Cavan on May 1. All details are available here. RSVP to louiseg@nwci.ie.
