NWCI - International Women's Day Celebration
8 March 2010
It’s time to get fired up about feminism again!
Join us to celebrate International Women’s Day and debate “The Equality Illusion” with one of the UK’s most exciting young feminists, one of Ireland’s oldest feminist activists, one of our dynamic global sisters and one of our rising stars!
Our event will open with a specially commissioned short performance by the brilliant Crooked House Theatre Company. Then Kat Banyard will talk about her new book, “The Equality Illusion”, which reveals the truth about how far feminism still has to go if our culture is really to change. After Kat’s talk, three women of different generations living in Ireland today will speak.
Sylvia Meehan, veteran of decades of campaigns, will look at how the women’s movement appears to her, now.
Alwiye Xuseyn, health officer with AkiDwA, came to Ireland from Tanzania 20 years ago – she will give us a migrant woman’s view, and
Linda Kelly, Equality Officer with the Union of Students of Ireland, will give a young woman’s perspective.
The event, chaired by our director, Susan McKay, starts with refreshments at 10.30am and finishes with soup and sandwiches at 1.30pm.
