Members Meeting - Violence against women and the law
27 March 2010
This meeting will provide members and friends with the opportunity to listen to and share views and experiences from North and South on current legislation and practice in addressing violence against women.
It will be of particular interest to those of you working on this issue, and we are extending a warm invitation to interested non-members.
There is a great line up of speakers:
Marie Brown, Director of Foyle Women's Aid, and Eleanor McGuckin, Manager of Avert training, will be sharing their experience of relationship building in the North-west with the Police Service Northern Ireland. They will tell us how this groundbreaking interagency work, which includes training, is helping to ensure a better chance of justice for women experiencing domestic violence.
Professor Tom O'Malley of University of Galway will speak about rape and the law in the Republic.
Fiona Neary, Director of Rape Crisis Network Ireland, will present the findings of its new research, Rape and Justice in Ireland: A National Study of Survivor, Prosecutor and Court Responses to Rape. Please click here to read the report.
