Countess Markievicz School 2018 to explore 100 Years of Suffrage: Rights and Representation

The Countess Markievicz School, now in its eight year, this event will take place on Saturday, April 28th in Liberty Hall Theatre, Dublin. The School is delighted to have Dawn Foster, Guardian columnist, author of ‘Lean Out’ and ’one of the left’s 100 most influential voices’ deliver the keynote address.

The issue of parity and political representation will be discussed with a panel of speakers including Yvonne Galligan, Professor of Politics, Queens University Belfast, Orla O’Connor, Director, National Women’s Council of Ireland and Louise O’Reilly, Sinn Féin TD, Dublin Fingal.

A panel on Repeal and Consent will be chaired by Tara Flynn, actress, comedian and writer. She will be joined to discuss these issues by Cliona Saidléar, Executive Director, Rape Crisis Network of Ireland, Colette Browne, Irish Independent Columnist & Barrister and Ailbhe Smyth, Feminist Campaigner & Convenor, Coalition to Repeal the 8th Amendment.

Admission is free and open to the public but advance booking is required. Tickets can be booked at Eventbrite

The Countess Markievicz School was established in 2011 as a forum on women in Ireland by graduates of Equality Studies, School of Social Justice in UCD to honour Ireland’s first female elected politician in 1919.
