Women’s Aid extends Opening Times to become 24 hours a day, 7 days a week service

Published: Saturday, February 13, 2016

One in five women in Ireland experience domestic violence and in 2014 Women’s Aid heard over 22,000 disclosures of emotional, physical, sexual and financial abuse of women and children.

Women's Aid announced in early January that that their National Freephone Helpline 1800 341 900 is now a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week service.

The Helpline, which first became available in 1992, has supported many thousands of women in abusive relationships for many years and is the only national, free, domestic violence Helpline with a text service for deaf women and an interpretation service which allows us to support women in over 170 languages.

We know how important it is for the service to be available whenever women need to talk. That might be in the early hours of the morning before the kids wake up, or the middle of the night after an attack by her partner. Or it might be just the right time for her to want to speak to someone.

So from Monday 4th January 2016, the staff and volunteers of the National Freephone Helpline 1800 341 900 will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
