Towards Gender Responsive Budgeting in Ireland

NWCI is delighted to invite you to a seminar titled ‘Towards Gender Responsive Budgeting in Ireland’.

This event will see the launch of a piece of research commissioned by NWCI which will set out a model for how gender budgeting can be applied in the Irish context. It will also see the launch of the recently published special edition of the Administration Journal on how policy and budget proofing can advance human rights and equality in Ireland.

The seminar will hear from a range of speakers, both national and international, including: 

  • Camille Loftus, Socio-economic Researcher and Consultant
  • Dr.  Angela O’Hagan, Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University and member of the Scottish Equality Budgeting Advisory Group
  • Dr. Elisabeth Klatzer, a leading expert on gender budgeting who has worked on training programs in different parts of the world and is a lecturer at UNU-GEST in the module on practical tools for gender sensitive projects.
  • Sarah Swaine, Department of Public Expenditure and Reform
  • Laurence Bond, Director, IHREC
  • Dr. Mary Murphy, Commission Member, IHREC
  • Orla O'Connor, Director, NWCI

NWCI has been funded by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) to carry out a project to support the implementation of the Programme for a Partnership Government commitment to gender and equality proof the national budget. This project has resulted in a body of research, the first of its kind in Ireland, which sets out a pathway for Ireland to implement a gender responsive approach to budgeting, one which will benefit not only women but all sectors of society.
