Muslim Women in Ireland
The NWCI is also currently working on completion of a publication on the 'Voices of Muslim Women in Ireland'.
The aim of the publication is to build awareness and understanding of the experiences and reality of Muslim women's lives in Ireland and to provide information on the lives of Muslim women which will be available to women's groups, youth groups and the general public. We aim to address the negative stereotyping of Muslim women in the media and in Irish society as a whole while Illustrating the diversity that exists amongst Muslim women in Ireland. The publication will depict the lives of women from a diverse range of backgrounds covering differences in age, nationality, cultural backgrounds, professions, roles and attitudes.
We will seek to depict the lives of Muslim women living in different geographical settings in Ireland (rural, urban etc.) and to highlight the concerns, difficulties and positive aspects of their lives as they attempt to be fully included and integrated members of Irish society. 12 women have been asked to tell their stories from a personal perspective and to refer to their experiences as Muslim women, their views on their situation and their hopes and aspirations for Muslim women for the future. The publication will be posted here in January 2010.
