European Women’s Lobby

The European Women’s Lobby (EWL) is an umbrella body for women’s organisations from over 27 European countries to promote equality between women and men. NWCI is a Board Member of EWL.

Gender equality is one of the core objectives of the European Union but this cannot happen without the participation of women’s organisations across Europe. The EWL is a conduit for that participation at EU level. Many decisions are made at EU level that have a major impact on what happens at national level. It is crucial we have a strong and united feminist voice and analysis directed at EU institutions who make decisions that affect our lives. The EWL provides a space for women organisations to share ideas and examples of best practice in advancing women’s human rights.

EWL work on all aspects of women human rights including violence against women, women in decision making and the economic and social rights of women. EWL engage with EU institutions to make women’s voice heard and input a gender analysis into formulation of policies and legislation that affect gender equality.
