International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 17th October

The Irish 17 October Committee cordially invites you to the commemoration of the International United Nations Day for the Eradication of Poverty on Thursday 17 October at the Human Rights and Poverty Stone, Custom House Quay, Dublin 1.

Gathering at 10.30am; Commencing at 11.00am.

On the 17 October each year, we come together to demonstrate the strong bonds of solidarity between people living in poverty and people who wish to support them, and our commitment to work together to overcome extreme poverty and abuse of human rights through our individual and shared commitments and action. The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty seeks to promote dialogue and understanding between people living in poverty and their communities, and society at large. All around the world, people from different backgrounds come together to participate in the movement towards ending poverty, the first goal of the UN Global Goals.

This year is the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.  With this in mind, the International 17 October Committee in discussions with the United Nations in New York has chosen as the global theme for this year’s UN End Poverty Day:

“Acting Together to Empower Children, Their Families and Communities to End Poverty”.

The gathering will include testimonies, speeches, a creative common gesture, music and songs.
