Abortion - Policy Position Paper of the National Women’s Council of Ireland

NWCI members have mandated the NWCI to adopt a pro-choice position on abortion that is rooted in an analysis of gender equality, women's human rights and social inclusion.

Abortion is a significant contention in Irish society and one that remains unresolved. The NWCI acknowledges the entrenched social, religious and political views on both sides of the debate. Though recent events have brought abortion back into the public domain, the NWCI has worked on the issue over the last thirty years and the NWCI position on abortion has developed over time in recognition of the diversity and evolution of views in the area. NWCI members have mandated the NWCI to adopt a pro-choice position on abortion that is rooted in an analysis of gender equality, women's human rightsļ¾ and social inclusion.
