NWCI Submission to the Departments proposals to develop a retirement savings scheme

The Government is making proposals to develop an automatic retirement savings scheme to begin in 2022. NWCI welcome the opportunity to present our views on the proposals. We are concerned that will not address the gender pension gap and tying the pension system to earnings and employment will leave many women out. Women will only be able to afford supplementary savings if their earnings during their working lives allow it. NWCI will continue to advocate for the introduction of an universal state pension as the best guarantee for equality and dignity for women in older age.
