It’s time to cast your vote for women this Friday

Published: Wednesday, May 23, 2018

Ahead of polling day on Friday, the National Women’s Council of Ireland (NWCI) is calling on voters across the country to vote Yes this Friday to repeal the 8th Amendment from the Constitution.

Orla O’Connor, Director of NWCI said,

“NWCI has been at the forefront of the campaign to remove the 8th Amendment from the Constitution for many years. On Friday, we will have the once in a generation opportunity to vote Yes for a better Ireland for women and girls.

Abortion is a reality in Ireland and on Friday, women and men across the country will have the opportunity to vote Yes so that women in crisis pregnancy situations can receive regulated, safe healthcare in Ireland under the medical supervision and with the support of their own doctor.”

She continued,

“We are in particular calling on men to vote Yes for the women and girls in their lives. You can vote Yes on Friday and still have reservations on abortion. This vote is about ensuring that women who make the decision to end their pregnancy can receive the care they need here in Ireland.  The vote is about ensuring a woman who becomes pregnant as a result of rape can have the option of an abortion in Ireland. It is about allowing women and couples who receive the diagnosis of a fatal foetal anomaly to receive the care they need from their own medical team here in Ireland. Together we can achieve a better and safer Ireland for all women and girls this Friday.”
