There was much joy at the weekend in Rotterdam as Ireland's own Katie Taylor fought her way to achieve her fifth European Senior title in a row.

Taylor won the title after an intense match against Russia's Sofya Ochigava and further proved that she deserves her place in the upper echelons of legendary Irish Athletes.

Indeed it was a particularly sweet triumph for Taylor who lost to the Russian light-weight last year.

She returned to Dublin yesterday to a hero's welcome.

We, at the National Women's Council of Ireland, would like to congratulate Katie on an impressive win and her record to date. She is an inspiration to all female athletes out there.
