Flowers for Magdalenes 2019 - New Ross, Wexford
Sunday, March 03, 2019
Marking the run up to international woman's day this year also marks 52 years since the closure of the New Ross Magdalene Laundry in 1967. Ireland’s Magdalene Women form a very important part of our cultural heritage and have previously been hidden in the shadows of Irish cultural memory. This is the 6th year for this memorial which commemorates the lives of women who were incarcerated in the Good Shepherd Magdalene Laundry, New Ross, This peaceful and respectful homage remembers these once forgotten women through poetry, song, reflection and the laying of flowers.
Justice for Magdalenes Research (JFMR) is calling on members of the public to visit Magdalene graves on this day and lay flowers to honour the women who lived and died behind convent walls.
Flowers for Magdalenes is a family event and children are welcome to attend on Sunday March 3rd at the earlier time of 12 o' clock noon in St. Stephen’s cemetery, Irishtown, New Ross.
Organised in conjunction with Justice for Magdalenes Research.
