On our website you will find useful information about the Union's activities on behalf of our 13,000 members in the Civil Service, Public Service and the Private Sector.

The primary role of the CPSU is to organise and represent its members at all levels on all issues relating to their terms and conditions of employment. The CPSU was formed in 1922 and since then has represented staff in the clerical and administrative grades of the Civil Service, Semi-State bodies and the Private Sector.

Main Aims of the Union

The Union is a democratic organisation which organises decision-making in accordance with its Rules and Constitution. Some of the main objectives of the Union as set out in the Rules and Constitution are :

  • To promote equality of treatment
  • To promote public services
  • To promote education and training for all
  • To provide benefits to our members.

The rules of the Union can be amended at a Rules Conference which takes place every two years.
