Community Sector & Trade Union Campaign

Published: Thursday, September 09, 2010

In response to Government's intention to implement the McCarthy Report and savagely cut the Community and Voluntary Sector, Trade Unionists, Community Groups and Employers formed the "Defending Ireland's Communities" campaign.

"Defending Ireland's Communities" is an evolution of last year's "Communities Against Cuts" campaign. Currently activists all over the country are meeting with TD's to gain support for the campaign.

There are two upcoming events that we are encouraging activists, workers and communities to get involved with:

Seminar - The Community Sector: A Cut Too Far
Wednesday 15th September, 2pm
Liberty Hall Theatre, Eden Quay, Dublin

Justine McCarthy will chair a seminar with presentations from experts within the community.

Speakers include: Brian Harvey (social researcher), Tom O'Connor (Cork IT lecturer), Maureen Kelly (CSEF), Patricia King (SIPTU Vice President), Shay Cody (IMPACT General Secretary).

This event is led by the Community Sector Employers and supported by Community Sector Trade Unions.

Please reserve you place by e-mailing doconnor@siptu.ie.
