National Women’s Council of Ireland issues support for Wallis workers

Published: Tuesday, October 22, 2013

National Women’s Council of Ireland (NWCI) today issued support for the mainly female Wallis workers on strike, following management refusal to compensate workers for loss of earnings and to meet previously agreed terms and conditions.

Orla O’Connor, Director of National Women’s Council of Ireland said,
“At a time when families are struggling so much, any loss in earnings will have a devastating impact. Austerity has meant for many women workers reduced hours and reduced earnings. Many of the Wallis workers are now facing redundancy and it is critical that they get a fair deal with fair compensation.”

Orla O’Connor concluded
“Many of these women have been working for the company for over twenty five years and have families and have shown huge loyalty to the company. All they want is a fair package and a fair deal.”
