NWCI Pre-Budget 2018 Submission Briefing

Published: Friday, October 06, 2017

On Tuesday 26 September, NWCI launched a Pre-Budget 2018 Submission in Buswell’s Hotel in Dublin. We invited politicians to come and discuss our priorities for advancing women’s equality in Budget 2018.

For NWCI’s submission, we focused on five key areas:

1. Embedding gender budgeting into the Irish budgetary process
2. Closing the gender pension gap
3. Eliminating violence against women
4. Childcare and early years
5. Advancing women’s leadership and participation in decision-making

We were delighted to welcome women from Duhallow Women's Forum, IRD Duhallow, and South Kerry Women's Association to the briefing, where they had the opportunity to discuss the impact of the gender pension gap on their daily lives. Many of the politicians commented that their contribution was invaluable.

We were also pleased to have members of NWCI’s board of directors and representatives from NWCI group members, attend the launch and engage in discussion with politicians about our priorities for women’s equality in Budget 2018.

Many politicians from a range of political parties attended the briefing, where we had the opportunity to discuss how to make women count in budgetary considerations.
