NWCI’s work towards a fair pension for women

Published: Friday, October 12, 2018

We continue to work to highlight the inequalities in the current state pension system and highlight areas of concern with future proposals for reform.

We supported the Kerry Womens Interactive Network with thier campaiging meetings over the summer as they continue to push for equality in pensions.

In September we made a submission on the proposals to introduce a Total Contributions Approach.

Currently the Department of Employment and Social Protection are inviting peoples views on their draft proposal to design a system to support employees to save for their retirement. You can read the background information here. A plain english version can be accessed here.

The Government will also be holding a consultation event in Cork on the 19th October.

We will be making our own submission, please get in touch if you want to get involved. Here are some of the points we will be raising. We are concerned about the focus on supplementary pensions when attention needs to be paid to the state pension as the best guarantee for dignity and independence into older age for women.

Send your views to autoenrolment@welfare.ie before the 4th November.
