What do we need from the State Pension in the future?

Published: Tuesday, July 03, 2018

It will affect you, your children, your grandchildren, the members of the groups you represent.

Minister Regina Doherty announced a consultation for State Pension Reform in June.

The consultation will help to inform the design of a new Total Contributions Approach (TCA) to the State Pension (Contributory) from 2020.

The Total Contributions Approach is a way of assessing and calculating a person’s eligibility for a full State pension. The Pensions Framework through which the Government plans to organise the state pension proposes that the current system of yearly averaging be replaced with a Total Contributions Approach from 2020.

The Total Contributions Approach consultation runs from the 28th May to 3rd September 2018.
