National Women’s Council of Ireland |  Stakeholder Submission to the Universal Periodic Review

Published: Thursday, April 09, 2026

This Stakeholder Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review (UPR) for Ireland in 2026 is grounded in consultation with our membership in March 2026. It also builds on NWC’s other recent research and policy work, including our submission on Ireland’s 2025 examination under the UN Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women.

The UPR is a global human rights check-in, where every UN Member State has its record reviewed by other countries roughly every 4–5 years. Ireland's Fourth Review is taking place in 2026, with the Third Cycle concluding in 2021. Please note: This submission was subject to strict word limits under the Universal Periodic Review process, limiting the level of detail we could include in our analysis across the broad range of women’s equality issues we work on.
