NWCI welcomes response to the Cloynes Report

Published: Thursday, July 14, 2011

The National Womens Council of Ireland calls for further action from the Justice Minister Alan Shatter and Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Frances Fitzgerald after the response to the publication of Cloynes Report. The promised referendum will include the rights of the child in the Constitution which will help curtail systematic child abuse and lessen the impact these horrendous acts have on their victims and their families.

"The Cloyne Report, shows yet again the horrific abuse suffered under the Catholic Church and its failure to act on the evidence and complaints by survivors," said Orla O'Connor, Head of Policy. "The NWCI welcomes the responses from the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Frances Fitzgerald and the Minister for Justice and Equality Alan Shatter to the publication of the Cloyne Report and calls for legislation to be urgently enacted to protect children now and in the future."
