Seven ‘outstanding leaders’ in women’s equality

Published: Wednesday, January 04, 2012

Women's e-News has identified seven powerful change advocates for 2012.

The seven - Susan L. Blount, Nancy Duff Campbell, Marcia D. Greenberger, Joe Keefe, Yousriya Loza-Sawiris, Natalia Oberti Noguera, Sue Osthoff and Julie Thukral - have been selected for being 'outstanding leaders, dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls'.

Susan L. Blount is the Senior Vice President of Prudential Financial. In 2010 she began the Inclusion Initiative to get large corporations to hire women. Now large numbers of these companies will spread their legal fees among firms run by women and racial minorities, which are often smaller and paid less by clients.

Seventeen organisations are currently signed up, including GlaxoSmithKline, Google, Wal-Mart and Microsoft, and services delivered to smaller law firms have almost doubled to $70m since 2010.

Nancy Duff Campbell and Marcia D. Greenberger are lawyers and co-presidents of the National Women's Law Center, which is challenging gender discrimination in schools - for example in the masculine world of athletics.
