Girls from Earth - exploring the impact of FGM through the eyes of 2 young women FREE

Girls From Earth,

a documentary filmed in Kenya and Spain as part of the AFTER

(Against FGM Through Empowerment & Rejection) Project.

Our project partners in Belgium produced this. The documentary explores the impact of FGM through the eyes of two young women. The documentary includes interviews with social workers, academics, a doctor, and decision makers in both Europe and Africa.

After the screening we will have a Q&A with our visitors from Kenya:

Cheposalawich Cholongosia used to be a cutter, meaning she carried out the practice on girls as young as ten years old. She is now a champion for ending the practice and has convinced three other cutters to abandon the practice.

Susan Cheyech Alukulem is a farmer and is the Chairlady of the local women’s network on a voluntary basis. As part of this role she accompanies survivors of FGM to the police, the children’s welfare office and school administrations. She trains and advises vulnerable girls and women. And she fosters vulnerable girls during school holidays.

Dinah Chepkemei Nyorsok is Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns Capacity Building Coordinator with ActionAid Kenya. She established the Kongelai women’s network which now has over 1,000 women who are helping fight female genital mutilation.
