Michele Bachelet, UN Women Executive Director addresses the Committee on Domestic Workers

Michele Bachelet, UN Women Executive Director and long time champion for women's rights, addressed the Committee on Domestic Workers during the 100th International Labour Conference, highlighting the issue of decent work for domestic workers and the inherent danger a lack of decent work proposes to UN women.

The former president of Chile committed her agency's support for the ILO in ensuring an international standard for domestic workers is achieved.

In her address, she acknowledges that domestic work is one of oldest and most valued occupations in the world. She also recognises the domestic workforce predominantly consists of women, often from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.

With a view to further empower women's economic status, she assures the Committee of the commitment of UN women to the ratification of the Convention.
