Recognising the mental health needs of LGBTQ+ women

The Women's Mental Health Network were proud to host a webinar exploring the diverse mental health needs of LGBTQ+ women on Friday 17th of June. This event explored topics such as mental health needs at different life stages, and ways mental health services and practitioners can improve awareness and responsiveness to the needs of LGBTQ+ women.

This event was chaired by Linda Curran, Social Work Team Leader at St Patrick's Mental Health Services and we were kindly joined by the following expert speakers:

  • Paula Fagan, CEO of LGBT Ireland, who spoke about older LGBTI+ women and LGBT Ireland's Champions Programme.
  • Moninne Griffith, CEO of BeLonG To, who spoke about LGBTI+ young people in Ireland.
  • Lilith Ferreyra-Carroll, National Community Development Officer for TENI, who spoke about how services can be responsive to trans people's mental health needs.

A recording of the event is available below

The Women’s Mental Health Network is a network of people and organisations with a committed interest in women’s mental health issues. It was developed by the National Women’s Council  (NWC) and St Patrick’s Mental Health Service (SPMHS).

The network has two aims:

1. To provide a forum for information-sharing and networking

2. To advance interdisciplinary and multi-agency collaboration on women’s mental health issues.

To do this we share information via newsletters and online updates and organise education and networking events hosted collaboratively by SPMHS and NWCI.

You can find out more about the network and sign up to the Network here.
